Most people who maybe reading my blog for the first time may have never heard of Jo Jo White and how good he really was. White played 12 NBA seasons and was an All-Star 7 times and made the playoffs 6 times. What was special about Jo Jo White that leads me to write about him today? It really simple with Game 7 coming up in Boston on Sunday I wanted to step back and give some press to guys who help make the game better and White was one of those.

Many players look for the limelight or want to take the last shot for the glory, but that was not Jo Jo White. He was a simple man who came out of Kansas in 1969 and just wanted to play basketball. He was a guard who knew his job and that was to get others involved. It did not matter how many points he got or how many assists were in the box score for Jo Jo. What mattered was if his team got the win.

This is lost in today’s game with the million dollar contracts and the shoe endorsements that modern players now get. White was great because he did his job on the court and did not ask for praise or wanted to be interviewed after each game. He just went out and played for the love of the game. In today’s world that seems lost anymore.
