Well after the Dallas Cowboys went to Philadelphia and got taken to the woodshed by a 44-6 score the Dallas Cowboys and their fans nightmare is finally over. The season started with such high hopes for Cowboy fans with a easy opening win against the Cleveland Browns, but after that it steadily went downhill.
Terrell Owens started to complain during the season he was not getting the ball enough, Pacman Jones decided to fight his bodyguard and Tony Romo and Felix Jones got hurt. Jason Witten and T.O. got into an altercation as well according to various sources. Just the life of a Dallas Cowboy fan I guess.
The funny part is after all they went through all they had to do was go out and win the last game and they would make the playoffs. So what did the Dallas Cowboys do nothing at all. They showed up and dressed, but that was a bout it. Five turnovers and horrible play doomed them and in the end maybe their own selfishness and fighting among themselves also contributed to that. This just goes to prove no matter how much talent you have there is no I in team and everyone must be on the same path or a train wreck will occur. If you do not believe me ask any Dallas Cowboy fan today and they will tell you that.
The Minnesota Vikings were finally able to get the win they needed by beating the New York Giants 20-19 and with this win the Chicago Bears were eliminated for a playoff spot. Other games seen Pittsburgh dominated the Hapless Cleveland Browns 31-0 and probably the last game for Romeo Crennel as coach of the Cleveland Browns.
Peyton Manning played a little bit and looked go as usual in their 23-0 drubbing of the Tennessee Titans. Many players did not play for Tennessee so that had something to do with that as well. Tampa Bay was also eliminated when Oakland beat them and that opened the door up for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Florida State look like they did just a few years ago and Bobby Bowden had to be smiling inside. The Seminoles are not back to where they once were, but getting there slowly. In the Champs Bowl Florida State used a powerful offense to rack up some points while the Florida State defense looked like they did when they were rolling over teams and that was dominating.Florida State brings back a bunch of players so they should also be god next year as well.
As for Wisconsin P.J. Hill rushed for over 100 yards, but that really was about it for the Badgers who really could not get anything going and finished the season just 7-6. It was a very disappointing ending to a season that started out so well. There is some rebuilding needed in the next few years it seems at Wisconsin.
Pat White seems to play his best in the Bowl Games and he ran his record to 4-0 with a very impressive game as his West Virginia Mountaineers were able to beat North Carolina 31-30 in the Meineke Bowl. White threw for over 300 yards and hit Alric Arnett with a 20 yard touchdown pass midway through the fourth quarter to help give West Virginia the win.
Many people have said that they do not know if Pat White will find a job in the NFL, but his performance sure cannot hurt his chances. The biggest drawback they say is that White does not have the arm that teams are looking for and he is not very accurate. He reminds me a lot of Michael Vick and he was able to play in the NFL so I guess we will get to see if White will be able to make it. One thing is for sure Pat White plays excellent in Bowl Games and another MVP trophy sure can’t hurt him.
Doc Rivers said he seen it coming and there was little he could do about it as the Boston Celtics suffered their second straight defeat this time to the Golden State Warriors by a score of 99-89. After a long 19 game winning streak that came to a end in Los Angeles on Christmas day it seem the Celtics were a little drained and that was something the Warriors were hoping for.
Stephen Jackson returned to the lineup and scored 28 points for the Warriors who have been struggling and needed something to build on. This is a good win for the Golden State Warriors and something that hopefully will get them going in the right direction. This franchise has struggled for a number of years and I am sure their fans are ready for a team that consistently wins ball games. One win will not do that, but beating a quality team like the Celtics is a good first step.
I graced the cover of Sports Illustrated as the next big thing and was known by many as the Incredible Bulk. My name was Tony Mandarich. Tony was drafted number one by the Green Bay Packers in 1989 ahead of Troy Aikman and Barry Sanders who were drafted second and third. Mandarich was a mammoth of a guy at Michigan State were he dominated and was a Two-Time Big ten offensive lineman of the year. Upon entering the NFL many scouts had him as the best offensive lineman prospect that ever came out of college. We all found out that was just not the case.
Mandarich just could not make it in the NFL and even after a comeback with the Colts failed he retired and became a TV analyst for a few years, but now he runs a Photography business called the Mandarich Media Group. In 2008 he finally admitted what many people thought before he had used steroids in the past to get his great size, but in the end that was his downfall.
Roy Williams was brought in to give Terrell Owens some help, but that experiment has really not worked out very well and you cannot blame Williams for being frustrated. Everyone one the planet knows the kind of talent Roy Williams brings to the football field, but the Dallas Cowboys are not using him like they could which is a real shame. Williams played in Detroit and was the go to guy, but in Dallas in 9 games he has only caught 18 balls.
Unless they get the ball to Williams more often and let him play more the Cowboys are never going to go far. Patrick Crayton and Terrell Owens are very good players, but the bottom line is Jerry Jones gave away a lot to get Roy Williams and they need him on the field. I have yet to see a guy catch and balls while he is sitting on the bench watching others play.
For most of the game it looked like the Cleveland Cavaliers record at home of being perfect was in jeopardy as the Washington Wizards were trying to play Scrooge, but Lebron James would not let it happen. James scored some crucial points in the fourth quarter and the Cavaliers hit their free throws down the stretch to beat the Wizards by a score 93-89. The Wizards put up a great effort, but it just wasn’t enough to get the win. James finished with 18 points and Mo Williams scored 24 points to pace the Cavaliers.
The Boston Celtics was hoping to make it 20 straight wins as they took on the Los Angeles Lakers in L.A, but it was not meant to be as Kobe Bryant tossed in 27 points and Pau Gasol hit some key baskets down the stretch to give the Lakers a 92-83 win over Boston. This is a game that I am sure many Laker players had circled on the calendar as a day for redemption and from the way they played this game was just that.
Kevin Garnett had 22 points for the Celtics, but you could see that tempers were getting to the boiling point in different parts of the game. The Celtics have what Kobe Bryant wants and that is a championship and he knows to be able to hoist that trophy Boston is one team his Lakers must be able to beat. On this day that is what happened, but down the road that could be another story. Today Christmas Day was great for Kobe and the Laker fans, but come June will they be smiling again or will those men dress in green the Boston Celtics hoist another championship.
Today and everyday we are going to look back at a former star and catch up with them and see what they are doing. Today’s person of interest is Elbert L. Woods who is better known as Ickey Woods to NFL football fans. Woods played for the Cincinnati Bengals and created a dance called the Ickey Shuffle which he did when he scored touchdowns. After rule changes were implemented he was forced to do it on the sidelines as if not he was given a penalty.
Woods professional career was not as long as he probably wanted it, but he did rush for 1,525 yards and scored 27 touchdowns for the Cincinnati Bengals. Injuries cut his football career short and he found many other jobs outside of football. One of the jobs he did was a salesman for Omaha Steaks where he did his Ickey Shuffle to try and sell the product. He has been in numerous television and music videos as well. Today Woods is coaching the Cincinnati Sizzle in the National Women’s Football Association and also runs a foundation for youth that bears his name. Many times you can also find him selling cold beverages at bengals games wearing his jersey.
