Michigan vs Ohio State Has Loss Some Luster

Published by ken77 under College Football Edit This

 1aaax56rt.jpg

The annual Ohio State-Michigan use to be the talk of the town in Ohio and Michigan, but in recent years this game has lost it’s luster. Now do not get me wrong both schools and states care about this game, but it does not have the reach that it once did.  Years ago you had names like Desmond Howard, Charles Woodson, Eddie George, and Chris Carter just to name a few. Those names are gone and today’s players on both teams just do not have the star appeal like the past.

This game use to be about talk and how one team was going to dominate, but that talk has pretty much ended to. This was one of the best rivalries in the country, but it seems that has been put on the back burner except maybe to the fans of both universities.  Michigan-Ohio State will always be a special game, but I do not know if it will ever get back to where it was. When Bo and Woody was in this game you would watch even if you were never a fan of either team. That is the pulling power of these two and this rivalry. It’s a shame that it does not do that anymore.

What To Do With Charlie Weis?

Published by ken77 under College Football Edit This

 150px-charlie-weis-2008coachestour-5-29-08.jpg

The million dollar question that is on almost everyone’s mind is what does Notre Dame do with Charlie Weis.  This season was suppose to be the one where he got things turned around at Notre Dame, but it has not worked out that way. The Fighting Irish have lost some games they could have won, but it did not happen. On offense the Irish are fine, but the defense is another story.

Defensively they miss to many tackles and put the offense in a bad spot most of the time. It seems Notre Dame has to score 30-40 points a game anymore just to win. Weis has to shoulder the blame as he hired the defensive coaches and has input into it. Notre Dame though is stuck between a rock and a hard place. If they do get rid of Charlie Weis they will have to buyout his contract which will cost them some money.

Secondly, who is out there that they could hire that would be a better upgrade than Weis right now. There are not a lot of college coaches that are great looking for jobs. The decision will be tough, but I think that he will be retained and brought back. I guess without a top level replacement the Irish are stuck with him and so are the fans. If Weis is gone Jimmy Clausen may turn pro and leave Notre Dame early so that is something they might want to consider as well.

Horned FRogs Crashing BCS Party!

Published by ken77 under College Football Edit This

 1aaaaaio.jpg

The TCU Horned Frogs right now must be a nightmare for the BCS and their system for picking the National Championship game. TCU dismantled Utah by a score of 55-28 to run their record to a perfect 10-0. I bet the BCS was hoping for something else, but the Horned Frogs are not going anywhere it seems. They have played well all year and it will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Hmmm Cincinnati and TCU in a BCS bowl game now that would be an entertaining game to watch indeed. Then you have Boise State as well who is undefeated. TCU and Cincinnati in my mind have proved they deserved to be in a BCS bowl. Boise State schedule is weaker than the other two. Horned Frog fans hope that they do not get screwed over, but remember this is the BCS.

The interesting scenario in all this is the BCS could easily have three undefeated teams after the Bowl Games are played. For TCU they still have two games left and must see how it all plays out. I hope they do not get screwed, but it seems that is how the BCS does it.TCU does must better than getting screwed out what they have earned. I guess in the next few weeks we will see.

Cincinnati Runs It’s Record to 10-0 With Win Over WV

Published by ken77 under College Football Edit This

 1aaa67yt.jpg

For the first time in it’s history the Cincinnati Bearcats are 10-0 and they and their fans are enjoying every bit of it. Last night they were able to overcome early mistakes and down West Virgina by a score of 24-21. Isaiah Pead ran for a career-high 175 yards, and Zach Collaros threw for 205 yards in his fourth start for Pike who did see some action in the second half.

Lately the Bearcats have had some close games and that is the way it usually works when you have not loss. Teams give you their best shot because they want to beat you. It will be tougher rest of the way for the Bearcats, but this team seems to be able to handle it real well and continue to win.
